Image One
This image was taken from the left hand side, in an establishing shot which gives the viewer some information on where the image is set. The shadows behind each object are on the left hand side which hints that the light is on the right side of the room. The objects in this scene create mise-en-scene as it clearly shows where the image; there is a TV, a sky box, a green clock and a glass cupboard. The lighting on the objects is dim which shows that these objects are not distinctive meaning that most homes hold the same objects in the living room. The dimness in this image is therefore a clear technique as it can relate to the viewers by having objects that they are familiar with in their own living rooms. This then helps the viewers to know where the scene is located. However, not all objects are dim, as there is a lot of light on the clock, which shows that there is something distinctive about it. This particular clock is a recto design because every time it passes an hour, the designed figures in the gold circle circulate. Nevertheless, this is not the focus of the image but instead it is the glass cupboard which has the reflection of the light and hardly any shadow. The significance of the glass cupboard is that it reveals not only the taste of fashion of those living in the place as the glass cupboard shows the people living there are classy. The glass cupboard also reveals that it holds several tapes and DVDs. This shows what I find interesting about this image as the glass cupboard alone reveals my hobby which is watching and collecting movies.
Image Two
This image was taken from a low angle on the right side; the significance of this shot is that it enlarges the objects which the audience will find unimportant for e.g. the sofa, the table, the fan. This was a cleverly taken shot as it revealed the different jobs the living room provides for me. The light on the tray and the plate show the importance of the table and the sofa, as the living room is where I eat from. The design on the plate includes colourful flowers which instantly reveal that I have a girly taste. The sofa has a blanket with dog foot prints which shows the taste of fashion I have. The fact that the blanket flawlessly matches with the colours of the sofa shows my persistence to maintain fashion. There is something distinctive and exclusive about the right hand corner where the light is. It so important to me as an individual that i zoomed in and took a close up. (Image Three) Which explains how I find this image the most interesting as it tells so much about my personality and my family just by focusing on all the objects.
Image Three
This image is a close up, a zoomed in photo of the previous image. This is the right hand side of Image Two which shows a lamp, a fan, cards, an African wooden instrument and a Rastafarian model. As it shows that my family is musical and African and holds a link with Rastafarian culture. Lastly on the top left corner, is a book shelf, which shows that the living room is almost like a library for this family as there are several books in the shelf. This hints that that this family likes to read a lot, one of the books reads psychology which could mean that one of my family members is a student. This supports the theory that I had made previously that Image Two reveals a lot about my personality and my family by revealing our culture and nationality.
Image Four
This shot is bizarre as it does not reveal the surrounding or which side of the room it is. This is what makes this image particularly interesting as the only objects in this image are three frames with pictures. The audience hath looking at the past images are then aware that these images on the wall, as the past images show how the wall looks like. This image shows three photographs of three different people; a graduate, a sport champion and a secondary year old boy. The significance of these photographers is it tells a lot about the person in the picture and my parents. The first photograph is on the far left, where there is young man wearing a graduate hat. This reveals this young man was academically focused as he has a degree, the fact that this image is on a wall hints the way his family feel about his success. Instead of putting this photo in a hidden dark corner, it is put on an empty wall making it impossible to miss. This shows that his parents and his family are very proud of him. The second picture, which is in the middle, is a picture of a girl in red jumper and white polo shirt. There is headline in this photo, which distinguishes it from the other photos; the headline reads ‘Athlete of the year.’ This reveals the character of this girl as she is very athlete and loves sports. Her red jumper and polo shirt suggest that she is in secondary school as a polo shirt is normally worn with uniform. The last photo is a picture of a young boy wearing a black blazer, a white polo shit and a tie. There is no headline or writing in this picture, just this boy. This shows that this is a school photo as there emphasis in this picture is the boy and his uniform. This picture unlike the others does not tell the viewers anything about his personality. This is a vital fact as it shows that this boy may not have any achievements but his face is on this wall, this could mean that the purpose of them being on the wall is not to show their success but the children. This hints that these are the only children they have.
Image Five
This shot is taken from a low angle, this is the left corner of the living room so it beside the book shelf seen in Image Two. The fascination fact about this image is that the objects look like they don’t belong in the sitting room; the computer for instance. The computer is positioned awkwardly, as though it was squashed into the sitting room. Even though the desk is seen to be big enough for someone to use, which shows that the computer fits just fine into the sitting room, it is still odd that the computer is in this sitting room. What makes the computer look as though it does not belong in the sitting room is the surrounding objects; the Ugandan flag and the speaker. The speaker is seen as an ordinary object in this object as most TVs have a speaker system so that the sound from the TV screen can be heard by those watching the TV. This justifies the reason of the speaker being in the sitting room. The Ugandan fits in with this living room as it follows the requirements stated in Image Three, as it reveals the identity of my family by showing my nationality. The only way that one can tell that this computer was designed to be in the living room is the fact that on the right side of the computer screen is a bookshelf. This could mean that the computer is there for studying purposes, when a person is by the computer not only can they type but they can read their books aswell.
