Question 1
The ideas for our media product was influenced by looking at other opening sequences. Watching Scary Movie 1 and The Ring (both Horrors) we saw the effect of having the forest as a setting as it creates mystery and fear. We saw the importance of making the person isolated and alone this makes it easier for the audience to recognize them as the victim. We noticed that these horrors and thrillers tend to place a female to play the victim to emphasize vulnerability. We chose to apply these conventions in our own product by making Helen the victim be a female, and shooting shots of her alone.
.
For sound we used conventions similar to that of Psycho
The soundtrack is repetitive, meaning that it plays the same notes again and again. It has one note that stands out from the continuous thumb which can suggest hope or adventure. This convention creates sense of danger and makes the audience suspicious, so we wanted to find a sound that can convey the same features. We choose a sound that clearly creates mystery and reaches a climax to suggest hope or adventure. The sound also helped emphasize the cinematography, by staying in rhythm with the voyeur shots to confirm that Helen is being followed.
Regarding cinematography we used and developed the conventions used in Final Destination 3.
We followed these conventions in our own media product by maintaining voyeur shots to show that someone is hiding whist watching. We keep the viewer concealed by not showing anything that can be used to reveal them, this makes the suspect follower the audience. In this way we maintained the questions asked during Final Destination 3 concerning ‘Why this person is hiding,’ ‘Who the person hiding is’
Our editing was inspired by Brick, which slowly reveals the main character by showing her costume and props to slowly build her character before finally showing her face. In Brick, the audience can tell that the person is a female because of the skirt and heels, her age is also revealed by the fashionable bright coloured bracelets suggest she is young. The whiteness of her blouse portrays her as innocent which suggests she is the victim.
We used these conventions in our media product as we reveal the gender by the long hair with blonde highlights and the studded handbag suggest the person is a girl. The suit is tightly fitted around her and her notepad is bright orange, this suggests that she is young possibly a student or a young worker. With these conventions the audience are familiar with the character before even seeing her face.

Assessment for Evaluation posts 1 and 2 (SJA 10th Feb)
www:
- Good to see you using your imagination for both Q 1 & 2 Angel
- Good incorporation of images, and some creative techniques to communicate your ideas
- Good attempt to make posts 'super visual'
ebi:
- Q. 1 - the Star Wars soundtrack you have used does not fit your genre?? Confusing. Show that you are totally immersed in your genre by selecting a track from the Thriller / Horror genre as the backing track for your mini movie
- Q. 1 - there's lots of text to read. It makes thoughtful points, but your mini movie does not allow the reader enough time to read what you have to say - it moves on too quickly. Slow it down.
- Q. 1 - needs MORE IMAGES in the mini movie - SHOW rather than tell - Use screen grabs from your opening sequence to compare to other films from the same genre - compare camera shots, setting, mise-en-scene, title placement, etc, etc...
- Q. 2 - Proof read all written posts carefully - Check your use of capital letters, spelling, and you use of 'I' when referring to yourself - it should never be in lower case!! (i) NO!!
- Q. 2 - Again, needs more relevant images Angel - your opening sequence represents the female in the typical 'Damsel in Distress' manner - perhaps find images of the typical Damsel in Distress from movies (I used some in class the other day) and use these in this post - comparing to screen grabs from your own opening sequence to explain how you have chosen to represent your female character.
- Q. 2 - I would like to see more shots from your film in your exploration of representation Angel

Question 3
My production company

The above Gif displays the logo of the most recognized film distributor, Lionsgate the leading global entertainment company worth 2 billion dollars.

A production company is responsible for budgeting, scheduling, scripting, the supply with talent and resources, the organization of staff, the production itself, post-production, distribution, and marketing. Our production company is called Target Line Production and it is owned by an independent company called Lionsgate.
The above Gif displays the logo of the most recognized film distributor, Lionsgate the leading global entertainment company worth 2 billion dollars.
Why?
Our production company is creating its first film meaning that it has not been involved with big budget productions so it may not be given much funding. Due to our lack of involvement in other productions, our production company is considered to be a small production company. This is why we need to be owned by a global independent company such as Lionsgate so that our small production company can grow to become a major production company.
Actors
Small production companies creating there first set of movies tend to focus on recruiting actors with an image and great performers to attract a mass audience. For this reason we are considering to get the following actresses to play the lead role of Helen; Beyonce Knowles, Jennifer Lopez, Halle Berry or Gabrielle Union. These women have succeeded in their careers, Halle Berry owns an Oscar whereas Beyonce has won several Grammys and Jennifer Lopez is an icon.Their popularity will attract adoring fans to watch this movie to see these celebrities act. This brings more viewers to the cinema and will increase the amount of money we make which would allow our small production company to develop into a major one. In addition to that all these women have squeaky clean lives and originate from an ethnic minority. This helps to emphasis Helen’s innocence as well to maintain the effect of portraying an ethnic minority in a positive way as Helen is black and is pictures wearing a suit.
Certificate (Regulation)
Our film is based on a girl trapped in her own mentality. This movie will include strong language and violence is also expected, violence will be both implicated to her by Lazar and Blade her tormentors as well as self harm. However, there is no sexual activity neither is nudity present. Though scenes can be emotionally distressing for the audience. For these reasons the film is rated a 15 in the United Kingdom and a pg 13.

Question 4: Who would be the audience for your media product
Children? Teenagers? Adults? For our media product we depicted teenagers as the ideal viewers, the finding from our survey dominated this thought as thriller is most viewed by teenagers, this is mainly because thriller movies are rated 15 and above. To isolate our viewers as teenagers rather than adults we focused on issues that teenagers favour such as superiority. So we took liberty in making the youths in our media
This not only appeals to our audience but makes our audience interactive as it allows the audience to feel energized as though they too have gained power over those seen to discipline them as Blade and Lazar have control over Helen. Though this is not revealed in the opening sequence, this is the plot of the movie. This makes our movie relative to most teenagers as they are a misunderstood. So we decided to use the stereotype to reveal teenagers in the way teenagers perceive themselves. One of the things that had influenced our decision to make Blade and Lazar one person was that teenagers are stereotypes to be a rebellious individual (Blade) which may be a different person to the person
themselves. (Lazar) Its these factors that contributed to our choice of audience.
Our Movie Your Taste
These movies each hold the highest number of viewers within the teenage audience. Each movie has a spring of teenage element and stereotypes as it places teenagers as troubled misunderstood youths. They focus on the lives of teenagers, the way teenagers perceive life, This makes it easier for the teenage audience to relate to. Its use of violence, action and mischief helps to depict a normalistic teenage world which increases the liability of an interactive audience. Such elements have govern the design of our media product as each movie presents the teenagers in causal clothing, which we made certain was the costume for our teenage actors: Blade and Lazar. By using similar elements to that exposed in these movies, we have shown that the ideal audience for our media product are teenagers. As our media product depicts teenagers as powerful individuals, this notion is also exercised in the above movies.
The Profile Of My Ideal Audience
Place Picture Below.

Time? Interest? Money?
Money? Interest? Time?
Teenagers > childrenTeenagers go cinema more than any other audience as they do not have a limited time to go cinemas, children are normally prohibited to go cinemas during the holiday because of the absence of school work. Whereas teenagers are in charge of their own decisions and tend to have their own way which means that if they intended to go cinemas on a school night then they could. Children have to be guarded by an adult to see certain movies, this makes it harder for them to go cinemas as they can only go cinemas if an adult has time to go with them.
Teenagers> Adults
Adults have jobs so they may not enough spare time to go cinemas. Whereas teenagers tend to have weekend jobs or no jobs at all meaning that they will have spare time. Teenagers do not have as many responsibilities as Adults, Adults have to pay for bills as well whereas teenagers only spend money on themselves this means that they will have enough money to go cinemas. Adults have a wide range of entertainment whereas teenagers have limited access as most things are for people 18 and over. So cinema may be the only form of entertainment for teenagers. This shows that by making teenagers our target audience, we are guaranteed views and can make large income.

Question 6:
Q6 What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product
View more presentations from angelsali.
Question 5
Cinematography
The framing and deep focus shots alongside the steadicam helped suggest that a person is watching her. The cut aways presented to look for a place to print the titles were used to create clues as to the genre and storyline. Take for instance, the bared wire shot creates a sense of danger and threat.
We used the voyeur shots to make Helen look vulnerable. These shots concealed who was following her, this allowed the audience to feel disconnected to the storyline as there is so much they dont know but will eventually discover. By shooting in a variety of places such as behind the trees, behind the chair, the audience are unaware of where and who the monster is, as the shots focus on what the monster (the stalker) can see rather than the monster itself.
We chose a forest to create the feeling of mystery and suspense. This addresses the audience by using familiar themes to existenting thriller conventions. Helen's costume, a suit reveals a normalistic lifestyle, this shows she is an ordinary woman with a job, this presents her as an innocent victim, as a normal woman would not be continuously followed on her normal day.Her suit is black, this could be used to counter argue the purity of her vulnerability; is she as innocent as the audience think she is?
Sound
The sound creates a uncomfortable feeling for the audience, which turns a passive audience into an interactive one. As the repetitiveness of the notes played in the score create a creepy atmosphere, hinting that something is not right. The repetitiveness of the score makes the moves look more delibreate suggesting that the stalker preplannned these movements, that the stalker knew Helens daily routine. The climax in the sound shows that something makes this day different from all the other times the stalker has followed her.

Planning For Locations
When looking for location we focused our search on places that seemed to have a sense of both normality and mystery. This led us to deciding to film on sites similar to the one above. We chose this location because it is a typical average path meaning that the audience can identify the setting and relate it to their own experiences. The path is isolated as it is a small path on a steep hill suggesting that people only walk on this path in necessity. The isolation of the path to the main road shows separation from the wider world suggesting maybe this path is for people wanted to walk to be alone. The isolation of the path is one of the reasons why we liked this location as it fits the themes of a thriller movie. Isolated settings are vital in thriller movies as it helps to depict the characters as vulnerable and powerless. It creates tension and fear within the viewers as they associate isolated places as places where bad things could potentially happen, this creates suspense as the audience wait to see what will happen.
